Ferritin is a naturally protein-coated form of iron found in legumes that allows for time release and efficient absorption, which helps to minimize irritation to the gastro-intestinal and digestive upset. Ferritin is a type of iron containing protein that is absorbed by endocytosis, a different absorption pathway than other iron forms, like ferrous sulphate or heme iron. Due to its unique protein bound nature, ferritin iron absorption is unaffected by anti-nutritives like phytates, oxalates or tannins, as well as minerals like calcium.
