GENESTRA BRANDS HCl & Pepsin digestive enzyme formula provides betaine
hydrochloride and naturally-derived enzymes that support the digestion of
proteins and fats.
Betaine is a naturally occurring plant substance found in beets, spinach, and
wheat. Betaine hydrochloride (betaine HCl) is commonly used to supplement
gastric acid levels. In a recent clinical study, a single 1500 mg dose of
betaine HCl was effective in reducing stomach pH in healthy participants.
Within 30 minutes of ingestion of the betaine HCl, participant mean stomach pH
was significantly reduced from approximately 5.2 to approximately 0.6Lipase
enzymes are obtained from animal (porcine and bovine) or plant (Aspergillus
oryzae and Rhizopus arrhizus) sources. Lipase enzymes aid in fat digestion by
hydrolyzing triglycerides into fatty acids and monogrlycerides. The proteolytic
enzyme pepsin A is the active version of the zymogen pepsinogen A (PGA). PGA is
produced by chief cells in the gastric mucosa, and released into the stomach
lumen following the ingestion of food. PGA is then converted into pepsin A by
stomach acid (HCl). HCl facilitates protein digestion and the absorption of
vitamin B12, iron and calcium.
