Dietary vitamin B6 must be converted in the liver to pyridoxal-5-phosphate before being used in biochemical processes. Pyridoxal-5-phosphate helps to catalyze the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, fats, sphingoid bases and neurotransmitters.
