Lycopene, the open-chain, unsaturated carotenoid gives the bright red color to tomatoes, guava, watermelon and pink grapefruit. Different carotenoids are distributed in different concentrations in different areas of the body, probably because they have specialized support functions in these areas. Lycopene seems to concentrate in the testes and adrenal glands. Lycopene and beta carotene also dominate in liver, kidney, lung and prostate tissues. To increase bioavailability, Progressive Labs uses Lyc-O-Mato® standardized extract of tomato in a softgel capsule with rice bran oil as the carrier.
