Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Ripe, large tomatoes sliced
  • 8 oz 225 grams Fresh mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Wash the tomatoes and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  • Slice the fresh mozzarella cheese into 1/4-inch thick rounds as well.
  • On a serving platter, arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices, alternating them to create a visually pleasing pattern.
  • Tuck fresh basil leaves between the tomato and mozzarella slices. You can use whole leaves or chiffonade them by stacking the leaves, rolling them up, and slicing thinly.
  • Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil generously over the tomato and mozzarella slices. You can also add a few drops of balsamic vinegar for extra flavor, but it's optional.
  • Season the salad with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Remember, the cheese and the optional balsamic vinegar can also add some saltiness, so taste before adding too much salt.
  • Serve your Caprese Salad immediately as a refreshing appetizer or side dish. It's best enjoyed fresh when the flavors are at their peak.
    Buon appetite!
